Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja has termed Mickey Arthur’s appointment as an ‘ego-driven’ and said “it won’t work”.

Arthur is set to join the team as the Pakistan team’s director, before taking up the role of the head coach for the ICC Cricket World Cup later this year.

“I think this has been massively mishandled because this concept won’t work,” said Raja on his YouTube channel. “This is an ego-driven decision because they don’t want to accept what the previous board has done. You are allowed to formulate your own strategy, but that doesn’t mean that you belittle local coaches and stars.”

He believes that this will be futile and massively backfire.

Arthur previously served as the team’s head coach for three years, where Pakistan managed to win the ICC Champions trophy in 2017. However, Arthur’s stint came to an end after the Sarfaraz Ahmed XI’s poor performance in the 2019 World Cup.
