Governor Punjab agreed in principle to the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly on Saturday but a notification was not issued until 10pm when the provincial assembly stood dissolved under the law at the expiry of 48 hour period following the chief minister’s advice.

Chief Minister Parvez Elahi had asked the governor to dissolve the assembly on Thursday, right after he had secured the vote of confidence in a tumultous assembly session.

Governor Balighur Rehman, however, didn’t become part of the dissolution process by refusing to issue a notification.

After the assembly stood dissolved, Rehman started the process for the appointment of interim setup, that is, interim chief minister.

He has sent letters to out going chief minister, Elahi, and the leader of the opposite Hamza Shahbaz Sharif. The caretaker chief minister will be appointed with their consultation.

On the other hand, KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan also announced that the KP assembly will be dissolved on Saturday.

“We will come back with two-third majority,” the CM said, adding that it was his last address as CM.

Imran Khan had originally made the announcement that both Punjab and KP assemblies, where PTI is in majority, will be dissolved on November 26 at a rally in Rawalpindi.

Vote of confidence in National Assembly?

While trouble brews between MQM-P and the rest of PDM, PTI is planning another move in the center.

The PTI is now planning a confidence vote against PM Shehbaz Sharif. Sources say that the president might ask him to take the vote soon.

Fawad Chaudhry tweeted what might be an indication on Saturday.

“Mr Shehbaz Sharif… Start preparing,” he wrote.
