The Interim Chief selector Shahid Afridi Saturday opened up about removing Babar Azam from Test captaincy.

For the first time in history, Pakistan failed to win a single Test at home and also lost four red-ball games on a trot this year.

The interim Selector, while speaking to the media, said that the declaration by Babar Azam was good. “I think it was a good decision from Babar and the management,” he said during his visit to the National Bank Cricket Academy.

“As far as change in captaincy is concerned, I think this is up to the Chairman [Najam Sethi], but for now it is not under consideration,” he added.

Moreover, he is keen on making two teams in order to improve bench strength.

Afridi also shed light on the communication gap between the players and the officials. “I feel like there was a lack of communication in the past. I got to know about the issues of players by speaking to them individually,” he said.

The former all-rounder was not impressed with the quality of the pitch used during the first Test against New Zealand. “We want our cricket to move forward but the pitches we have played on won’t help us do that,” he said. “Such pitches are not good for bowlers. We are trying to make a bouncy pitch for the second Test.”

The former captain also brushed aside the notion that the selection committee is a ‘one-man show’.

The PCB Management Committee, led by Najam Sethi, had appointed former Pakistan captain Afridi as the interim chair of the selection committee for the home series against New Zealand.

Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum were the other two members, while Haroon Rashid (member Management Committee) will be the Convener.
