Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of national and provincial assemblies from Multan expressed over the dissolution of assemblies on December 23.

“PDM [Pakistan Democratic Movement] should worry about the dissolution of assemblies, you people should not worry about it,” the PTI chief Imran Khan said at a meeting with the lawmakers.

The meeting of the PTI lawmakers with the party chief came hours after the PDM submitted a no-confidence motion against the Punjab chief minister, speaker, and deputy speaker of the Punjab assembly.

Immediately after the PDM submitted the resolution Punjab Governor Baligh ur Rehman directed CM Punjab to seek a vote of confidence from the assembly on December 21.

The PTI lawmakers were of the view that if the caretaker set-up would be dissolved, the PTI lawmakers might be the target of political vendetta.

The former premier reiterated that the general election was the only way to save the country’s economy, saying that political stability was necessary for economic stability.

Speaking about the Punjab chief minister, the PTI chief said that Chaudhry Parvez Elahi had his own opinion since he had his own party. “However, he stands by us,” he added.

On Saturday, Imran Khan announced that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab assemblies would be dissolved on Friday, December 23, saying that the country was on the brink of default and that early elections were the only situation to save the country’s economy.

Imran Khan calls meeting of party’s legal team

Meanwhile, the PTI chief has called a meeting of the party’s legal team and senior leaders to discuss the no-confidence motion submitted against Elahi.

Sources said that the meeting would review the legal perspectives of the no-confidence motion and whether the governor could summon a new session when a Punjab Assembly session was on.
