The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) submitted on Monday a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi in the Assembly Secretariat.

According to the sources, PPP Parliamentary Leader Hassan Murtaza, PML-N’s Tahir Khalil Sindhu, and others reached the Punjab Assembly Secretariat.

Separately, a no-trust motion has also been submitted against the Punjab Assembly speaker and deputy speaker.

The development came after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with his party leadership at his Model Town residence in Lahore. The PML-N decided to focus on its strategy to foil Imran Khan’s plan of dissolving the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab assemblies on December 23.

Immediately after the PDM submitted the resolution Punjab Governor Baligh ur Rehman directed Elahi to seek a vote of confidence from the assembly on December 21.

“It is the matter of public knowledge, reported widely in print and electronic media, that Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, the Chief Minister of Punjab, has lost the confidence of his party president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and members of his own party belonging to the PML-Q,” said the order shared by the PML-N on Twitter.

Earlier in the day, PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain confirmed that PPP and PML-N were planning to table a no-confidence motion against CM Elahi while another option of asking him to get the vote of confidence was also on the cards.

He also suggested that Elahi could stay in his post if he “makes a decision”.

Elahi has repeatedly said that he would dissolve the Punjab Assembly as soon as he gets the go-ahead from Imran Khan. However, on Sunday he issued a stern warning to Imran about speaking against their ‘benefactor’ former army chief General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa.
