Captain Babar Azam has opened up about the controversial Saud Shakeel’s dismissal, which cost Pakistan the England Test series.

Chasing a mammoth 355-run target, the Babar XI were bundled up for 328 on Monday at Multan Cricket Stadium.

Commenting on the dismissal, Babar said that as professionals they accepted the third umpire’s decision.

“It cost us,” said Babar. “We did think the ball touched the ground, but as professionals, we accept the decision of the umpires.”

The left-hander was dismissed for 94, just six runs short of his maiden Test century. He tried to guide Mark Wood’s delivery down the leg side but was caught behind by Ollie Pope. The catch was referred to as the third umpire as it was not clear to the naked eye.

After reviewing the footage, umpire Joel Wilson declared it out. However, the ball can be seen bouncing on the ground as Pope completed the catch.

Moreover, he admitted that Pakistan failed to finish well in the series. “We made mistakes in the Test match; we could have won, we didn’t finish well against Australia, and now again, we should have finished well.”

The final Test of the series will be played in Karachi from December 17 to 21.
