Balochistan LG polls: Lasbela, Hub, Haramzai vote to improve civic issues

Voting ends; counting of votes will start soon

People in Balochistan’s Lasbela, Hub, and municipal committee Haramzai are voting today (Sunday) to elect new civic leaders with hopes that they would improve civic issues like sewerage and waste management system.

Polling for Local Government elections started in the two districts and MC of Pishin began at 8am and would continue till 5pm without any break. Our correspondent Didar Ali, covering Hub and Lasbela, said that the turnout of male voters is high.

  • Male: 153,236
  • Female: 119,087
  • Polling stations: 259
  • Polling booths: 690

Haramzai of Pishin district

  • Total voters: 10,890
  • Male: 6,151
  • Female: 4,739
  • Polling stations: 13
  • Polling booths: 30

A total of 79 candidates are contesting local body polls in the municipal committee.

Administrators have been running the affairs of the districts since the tenure of local governments ended in January 2019. The elections would enable the local administration to generate funds and start development projects.

Balochistan crowned independents as winners in the LG elections held in 32 districts of the province on May 29. It was also unprecedented as more than 100 women had taken art as candidates for general seats for the first time in Balochistan’s history.

No political party had raised any objection to the local body polls.
