Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Chaman will be reopened from Monday after successful negotiations between officials of the two countries, Deputy Commissioner Chaman Abdul Hameed Zehri announced on Sunday.

“Some elements tried to create differences between the two countries”, the DC Chaman said in a video message, adding that the officials of the two countries held successful negotiations and agreed to reopen the border.

Zahri said that during the flag meeting the Afghan officials expressed grief and sorrow over the sad incident and ensured to bring the culprit to justice and put an end to incidents of violence at the border.

DC Chaman, officials from the frontier corps, and tribal elders participated in the negotiations from the Pakistan side.

Last Sunday, a terrorist opened fire at the Pakistani forces martyring a frontier corps soldier and injuring two others. Following the incident, the border between the two countries remained closed for seven days.

The incident caused the complete suspension of trade, and business activities and pedestrian movement also came to standstill.

The Chaman border crossing serves as one of the main trade and transit routes for Afghanistan for trade between, and through Pakistan.

The weeklong border closure has stranded hundreds of trucks on both sides carrying Afghan transit trade goods and freight between the two countries.
