PTI's long march is also continuing its slow progress towards Islamabad

A long march, an assembly session and suspense over the new army chief’s appointment. Here are today’s important political news.

PTI softens tone on army chief appointment

PTI’s Fawad Chaudhry said that President Alvi will play his ‘constitutional role’ on the matter of the army chief’s appointment and whatever he does will have the full backing of Imran Khan.

The development comes after reports claimed that President Alvi had made it clear that he would not interfere in the army chief’s selection process.

No chance of default

Minister of State for Finanace Aisha Ghaus Pasha dismissed any chances of economic default on Friday. She was addressing the national assembly.

The minsiter said that despite the fact that the government took power in a difficult situation, there has been significant improvement. The IMF program has been resumed and foreign exchange reserves have crossed $13 billion.

The statement comes after the PTI Chairman Imran Khan had made a statement saying that the economy was in a tailspin.

PTI’s long march updates

PTI’s ‘Haqeeqi Azadi March’ is continuing its progress towards Islamabad. The procession under Asad Umar will reach Chakwal today while the procession under Shah Mahmood Qureshi will reach Gujar Khan. Imran Khan will address via video link.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Rasheed said that he is ready to host the long march in Rawalpindi and Imran Khan will reach the garrison city before next friday.

Imran under threat: court

IHC CJ Aamer Farooq said in court today that intelligence agencies had mentioned the threat of another attack on Imran Khan’s life.

He was listening to a petition by traders that asked the court to make sure the city does not shut down when crowds reach Rawalpindi. The CJ said that the government must make sure it looks into the threats on Imran Khan’s life.
