Taliban Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said on Tuesday that Afghanistan expressed regret over the Chaman’s incident in which a soldier was martyred and two others sustained injuries, adding that a high-level Jirga had been constituted to bring the criminals behind the incident to justice.

“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan expresses incident and has appointed a high-level delegation to investigate the incident and find the culprits,” the spokesperson said in a tweet.

Pakistani security personnel was shot dead by an unknown person on the road leading from Spin Boldak to Chaman in Kandahar province, the spokesperson said and added that the security agencies of the Islamic Emirate were trying to pay serious attention to prevent such incidents from happening again.

On Sunday, an armed Afghan reportedly crossed Pakistan’s border and opened fire on the security forces, martyring a soldier and injuring another two.

The attack was followed by hours-long firing between Pakistani and Afghan border troops, prompting the closure of the key trade border between the two neighbours.

Reuters quoted a spokesperson for the Afghan interior ministry as saying that the clash had occurred between border forces from both sides due to a “misunderstanding” and the incident was being investigated.
