Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has urged the chief justice of Pakistan to form a full-court commission to investigative the allegations made by PTI chief Imran Khan.

PM Shehbaz, who was addressing a press conference in Lahore Saturday, said this while talking about Imran Khan’s accusation that the premier, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and a high-ranking military officer were responsible for the attempted assassination in Wazirabad on Thursday, November 3. “There is no place for violence in politics. We have asked the Punjab government to investigate the issue and are ready to assist them”

He said making unsubstantiated allegations fan the flames of discord. “Harsh language should be avoided at such occasions. You (Imran Khan) are taking the nation to the brink of destruction with your malicious lies and conspiracies.”

He said that Imran’s supporters were targeting Pakistan and its institutions, and the situation was being celebrated in neighbouring India. Neighbouring India, also a nuclear power, is considered Pakistan’s arch-rival.

“Imran Khan’s allegations are the embodiment of lies.”

He said that the Punjab government had been provided prior information about the threat, something that Imran Khan also said in his first public appearance after the attack.

He also addressed the delay in the registration of the first information report (FIR). “It is the responsibility of the Punjab government to register a case of the incident,” said Shehbaz.

The primary reason for the deadlock over the FIR, according to insiders, is that the Punjab police is unwilling to include the names of those mentioned by Imran Khan in the formal complaint while the PTI lawyers are demanding that they been made part of the record.

During today’s speech, PM Shehbaz said that Imran Khan first accused four people and later he named three people. Imran had named the premier, his security czar Sanaullah, as well as a high-ranking military officer stationed in Islamabad.

“If they is any shred of evidence found against me, Rana Sanaullah or the army officer, I will not only resignfrom the post of prime minister but also quit politics altogether.”

He continued that it would be travesty if the Supreme Court did not take action on this issue while urging Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial to form a full-court commission on the case.

“This full-court commission should investigate Arshad Sharif’s murder as well and should include senior as well as junior judges.” The premier added that he would make the same request through a formal letter while expressing hope that it would be approved.

“If you do not accept my request today, then questions will continue to be raised in times to come,” he continued. He said that the conspirators and sowers of discord could only be unmasked by such a commission. “I will wholeheartedly accept its decision regardless of what it is.”

He then fired a barrage in Imran Khan’s direction, saying that the jewelry the PTI chief took from the Toshakhana was ample evidence against him. “He politicised the Model Town tragedy, blackmailed state institutions, used terms like animal, neutral against them. He has been the biggest burden on the country’s politics in the last 75 years.”

On the issue of the appointment of the next army chief, he said it would take place as scheduled. “There is no need to worry.”

On the sit-in and protests, Shehbaz said that such demonstrations had taken place in the past as well including during a visit of the Chinese president to Pakistan. “This time, the protest was an attempt to discredit my visit to China.”

He then moved on to the accusations of blue-eyed boy that have been levelled against Imran Khan. “The Establishment gave unprecedent support to Imran Khan. No one has received such support from the Establishment in our 75-year history,” he said. “But Imran Khan is making allegations against the same institution today.”

The premier also said that he would conduct an inquiry into the allegations made by Azam Swati.
