An infant has been killed in Karachi during an exchange of fire between robbers and a police team. The child’s mother was also injured while caught up in the exchange.

The nine-month-old girl identified as Anabiya was traveling in a rickshaw with her mother when shots were fired near Sakhi Hassan Chowrangi in the jurisdiction of Taimuria Police Station.

Police said the robbers fled the scene as they continued to fire shots.

It was not clear whose bullets hit the infant, who is not the first child in Karachi to be caught up in cross fire between robbers and police.

In 2018, ten-year-old Amal Umer died after being hit by a bullet, when a local hospital refused to provide her the first aid.

Her death led to the passage of Amal Umer Act for compulsory medical treatment to the injured at private hospitals.
