International anti-money laundering and anti-terror finance watchdog, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) will likely remove Pakistan from its grey list of sanctions later this month, sources in Islambad told Aaj TV on Monday.

The FATF is holding its plenary and working groups meetings in Paris from October 18 to October 21, according to the calendar issued by the watchdog.

Sources in Islamabad say Pakistan has already completed action items assigned by the FATF and its partner Asia Pacific Group (APG) under two programs.

A 15-member FATF team completed an onsite visit to Pakistan last month, holding meetings with several officials and others.

The team also met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Sources say Pakistan now ranks among the top ten countries to show enhanced compliance with FATF guidelines to prevent money laundering and terror financing.

The Paris plenary will see an announcement for the removal of Pakistan from the grey list.

The country was put on the sanctions list in June 2018.

The initial decision to take Pakistan off of the list was taken at the last plenary held in June 2022, but it was contingent upon the successful outcome of the onsite visit.
