Shahnawaz Amir, the son of analyst Ayaz Amir, was produced before Islamabad district and sessions court on Monday in the murder of his wife Sarah Inam.

The court extended his police remand for another three days, allowing the investigation officer more time to question him.

Sarah Inam was murdered Friday morning at the Islamabad farmhouse residence of Shahnawaz Amir, who allegedly bludgeoned her to death with a gym dumbbell and dumped her body in a bathtub before the police arrived.

He was arrested at the crime scene and police also recovered the dumbbell. Police continue to grill Shahnawaz Amir since then after getting his physical remand multiple times from the court.

On Monday, the police produced Shahnawaz before the court after his three-day remand ended, and requested the judge to allow them more time to interrogate the accused.

The investigation officer (IO) told the court that the police were trying to recover Sarah Inam’s passport. The deceased’ travel history could only be known from the passport, the IO said.

The prosecution lawyer said that Sarah Inam was murdered at Shahnawaz’s residence and if the passport is not recovered, the accused may escape punishment.

The judge said that the case must not be hurt by the [poor] investigation.

The court extended the physical remand of Shahnawaz for another three-day as requested by the police.

‘Passport cut into pieces’

TV anchor Mehar Bokhari, who says she was a friend of Sarah Inam, claimed last week that after killing Sarah Inam, Shahnawaz Amir tried tampering with evidence by breaking his and Sarah Inam’s phone and destroying her Canadian passport by cutting it into pieces with scissors.

The murderer cleaned the blood in the room with a cloth and tried to wash off the blood by putting the body in the bathtub,“ she said in a tweet.

Shahnawaz’s parents Ayaz Amir and Saminah Shah were also nominated in the case by Saran Inam’s family.

However, the court discharged Ayaz Amir from the case last week while Saminah Shah was has been granted interim bail.
