ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Sindh’s Dadu district today (Tuesday) to review the relief activities and the scale of damages. Floods triggered by heavy rains have killed at least 747 people since mid-June in the province.

The prime minister, who was accompanied by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, was being given a detailed briefing on the damage caused by the flood and the pace of ongoing relief activities in Jhakro by an official.

PM Shehbaz will also interact with locals at a tent-city set up to accommodate the flood victims.

He is back after attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the United Nations General Assembly. In both events, the premier warned the world about the impact of climate change.

Sindh is the most affected province in the county, shows the National Disaster Management Authority data. Floods led by heavy rains have killed at least 747 people – out of the total 1,638 – in Sindh since mid-June, prompting the government’s top agency for coordinating relief activities, the National Flood Response and Coordination Centre, to transfer more than half of the total aid received to Sindh.
