Hate speech in Sweden’s election campaigns raises Muslim anxiety
Far right using anti-Muslim rhetoric
Voting for the general election in Sweden will be held on September 11, however, the majority of the country’s major political parties are making statements against Swedes of foreign origin, especially Muslims, living in the countryto gain the sympathy of the local people.
This has caused anxiety among Muslims. Some of them argue that they should be considered a minority at the national level so they have more legal rights. At Masjid Ahlal Bait on Friday, the prayer leader urged people to vote for Muslim candidates.
In April, violence broke out after a far-right group planned to burn copies of the Holy Quran. At least 40 people were injured.
