ISLAMABAD: The high court rejected a contempt of court plea against political big wigs – JUI-F head Fazl Rehman, PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, on Friday as inadmissible.

But the Islamabad High Court has upheld the objection of the registrar’s office that there was no relevant forum.

“The statements fell on deaf ears when they were made,” Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani said while hearing the petition on contempt of court against Fazl, Maryam and Sanaullah.

Lawyer Ali Aijaz Butter had urged the court to start proceedings in the contempt of court case.

The court asked about the application from the petitioner’s lawyer. He replied that such leaders gave different statements against the judiciary on social media.

“Is there any mention of this high court,” the judge asked.

The court advised the lawyer to approach the Lahore High Court and Supreme Court about which the latter talking.

The judge wondered about the reason for choosing Islamabad despite that the petitioner was from Lahore. “Tell petitioner that there are courts in Lahore.”

Nawaz rebuts ‘negative’ comments against Shehbaz

PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has disassociated himself from apparent negative statements against brother and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif amid rumours of rifts within the party.

“The negative comments attributed to me about PM Shahbaz Sharif are misleading and incorrect,” he said in a tweet.

Nawaz, who is expected to return in September “for people”, said he was hopeful of the premier’s efforts to steer the country out of the crisis.

“I remain hopeful that the sincere and tireless efforts by SS [Shehbaz Sharif] under the most challenging circumstances will bear fruit and he will steer the country out of the mess created by [PTI chief] Imran Khan,” he added.

The government’s decision to increase petrol price by Rs6.72 on August 15 had laid bare rifts within the party as PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz had said that Nawaz had opposed such a decision and left the party meeting.

However, the PML-N has rejected such reports and maintained the party was intact.
