  • Karachi was soaked with rainwater on Saturday as the fourth spell of monsoon rain spell restarted. The highest rainfall was reported in Surjani Town, with 60mm. It put an end to the humid weather in the city. Showers have been reported to affect the traffic in many areas of the city.

  • Downpours have also submerged low-lying areas in Sindh and damaged the connectivity between cities.

  • The Quetta-Karachi road was once again temporarily closed for traffic after one of the sections was damaged in heavy rains. At least eight people were killed in different incidents, bringing the total rain death toll to 182 in Balochistan.

  • The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was all set to stage a rally in Lahore today (Saturday). PTI Chairman Imran Khan was expected to make “big announcements”, sources said.

  • A court has approved PM Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz’s applications for exemption from hearing in a case pertaining to the Ramzan Sugar Mills.

  • The Punjab Police raided PM’s aide Attaullah Tarar’s house on Friday night in an investigation pertaining to the May 25 incident when the then provincial government apparently blocked the PTI workers from participating in the protest. The incident took a different turn when Punjab Home Minister Hashim Dogar offered to serve coffee to Tarar when he appears before police.

  • While Tarar has described Dogar as a “frivolous character” and advised him to work “for the ministry”.

  • Five more died because of toxic moonshine in Alipur Tehsil, bringing the total death toll to 13. Police have claimed to arrest the alcohol seller.

  • At least three people died because of the coronavirus over the last 24 hours, the National Institute of Health said. As many as 728 new Covid cases were reported.

  • People are gearing up for the diamond jubilee celebrations in Pakistan. Girls from Lyari, an area in Karachi, have vowed to earn a big name for the country by participating in different sports and fields.

  • Salman Rushdie, the Indian-born novelist who was ordered killed by Iran in 1989 because of his writing, was attacked on stage at an event in New York and suffered an apparent stab wound to the neck, according to New York State Police and an eyewitness.

  • FBI agents in this week’s search of former US president Donald Trump’s Florida home removed 11 sets of classified documents including some marked as top secret, the Justice Department said on Friday, while also disclosing it had probable cause to conduct the search based on possible Espionage Act violations.

  • Pakistan cricket team has reached Amsterdam for a series against The Netherlands. The tourists would play their first match on August 16, then on the 18th, and 21st. All the matches would be played in Hazelaarweg, Rotterdam.

  • People remember Queen of Pop, Nazia Hassan, on her death anniversary. The Aap Jesa Koi Meri Zindagi Mei Aye crooner got Pride of Performance and many other awards.
