Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has criticized the decision of the Supreme Court in the Punjab deputy speaker’s ruling case, saying that the apex court’s decision would lead the country to further anarchy and divide the nation.

“This decision is tantamount to the judicial coup and more than half of the people of Pakistan do not accept this,” Aurangzeb said while addressing a press conference alongside PML-N leaders Malik Ahmed Khan and Ata Tarar in Islamabad on Tuesday night.

The information minister said that the majority of political parties demanded a full court to hear the case as this bench “is considered a biased bench”.

She said that the petition filed for a full court had already shown “no confidence in the current bench”, and that’s why our lawyers boycotted and distrusted the Supreme Court. “The verdict shows that the decision to file the plea was right,” she added.

PTI made today’s decision controversial, she said and added that no one should doubt PML-N’s mandate in Punjab.

Speaking on the occasion PML (N) leader Malik Ahmed Khan the coalition government boycotted the court proceedings after the apex court rejected their plea for the formation of the full court bench.

The PML-N leaders’ press conference come after the Supreme Court declared the ruling of Deputy Speaker Dost Mohammad Mazari null and void on the election of Chief Minister of Punjab.

The apex court in its short order declared PTI-PML-Q joint candidate as Punjab chief minister and ordered Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman to take oath from Elahi as the chief minister of the province at 11:30 tonight (Tuesday).
