Former Prime Minister and PML-N Senior Vice President Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the army and judiciary should work within their ambit.

“Parliament has the right to limit the powers of the Supreme Court,” the PML-N leader said while speaking exclusively on Aaj News talk show Faisal Aap Ka with host Asma Shirazi.

He said that the Supreme Court itself had opened the doors for making laws to limit the court’s powers.

He said that it was a test of the Supreme Court whether it would restore its reputation or not. “If these votes are valid, then the 25 votes cast for Hamza are also valid,” he added.

In response to a question, Abbasi said that elections would be held only when there was no confidence against the incumbent prime minister or the assembly was dissolved.

Earlier a three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Cheif Justice Umar Ata Bandyal annulled Punjab Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari’s ruling over rejecting PML-Q votes.

The apex court, while declaring PML-Q’s Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as chief minister of Punjab, ordered governer Punjab to administer oath from Elahi at 11:30p.m tonight (Tuesday).

Meanwhile, PPP senior leader Farhatullah Babar slams the Supreme Court over its verdict on Elahi’s plea against Mazari’s ruling, saying that Constitution was not what’s written in it “but what the SC says it is.”
