Prime Minister Imran Khan, in a live address to the nation, on Sunday (today) said he has asked President Arif Alvi to dissolve assemblies, moments after NA Deputy Speaker rejected the opposition's no-confidence motion and adjourned the session.

According to Article 58, "The president shall dissolve the National Assembly if so advised by the prime minister; and the National Assembly shall, unless sooner dissolved, stand dissolved at the expiration of forty-eight hours after the prime minister has so advised."

Earlier, Aaj News reported that the premier had summoned the state broadcaster team to the Prime Minister's Office for an address to the nation.

“I want to congratulate the whole nation on the speaker’s decision to reject the no-confidence motion, which was aimed at changing the regime that was a foreign conspiracy hatched from outside,” PM Imran said.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, who has been given additional charge of the law ministry, said the PM sent such advice to the president under Article 58 of the Constitution.

The premier added that from yesterday many people were sending him messages and were worried about the prevailing political situation.

He termed the political development “treason to the nation,” adding that “traitors” were sitting in parliament. Moreover, he advised the public to “don’t panic.”

PM Imran said: “This nation will not allow such motions to pass from the assembly.”

After the speaker’s decision, he said: “I have advised the president to dissolve the assemblies. We democrats in a democratic society should go in front of the public. Elections will be held and the public will decide who they want.”

He alleged that corrupt people should not decide the fate of the country. He further advised the lawmakers, who have allegedly taken bribes, to distribute such money to the public.

PM Imran advised his people to prepare for elections and not allow any “external forces to decide the fate of the country.” He further congratulated the people as the “conspiracy” to oust the elected government has been failed.

According to experts, the recent political development has created "crisis" in the country and maintained that the House speaker has not right to dissolve the assemblies.

In a tweet, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the prime minister would continue his duties under Article 224 of the constitution and the cabinet has been dissolved.
