IMF talks: Tarin expects to get 1.2 billion next monthPakistan is likely to get 1.2 billion dollars from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in December. This was stated by Federal Finance Minister, Shaukat Tarin, on Friday night. He was talking to journalists at Karachi Airport on his arrival from Islamabad. To a question, the Minister referred to the ongoing negotiations with the IMF.
"After our discussions, the IMF team would take this proposal to their Board and if this is approved in December then Inshallah we expect to get 1.2 billion dollars in December", he said adding that this is being done under the programme.
Replying to a question, he said that for those industries that get less gas, government has suggested that they should be given gas for five days and for remaining two days of the week they should stay closed. This, he added, is part of the proposal for the diversion of the gas. Tarin said that the government desires to support the productive side of the economy.
Accordingly, he maintained, efforts have been made to extend support to the industry in spite of the shortage of the gas. He said like industry there would also be two days off for the CNG and the government has considerably accommodated the CNG industry.
